BELLY UP Reviews Singapore's Dog-Friendly Cafes: An Industrial Theme Chill Cafe In The East For Delicious Weekend Brunch At Five Oars Coffee Roasters
Disclaimer: This is an independent review and we have had no commercial relations to Five Oars Coffee Roasters or its affiliates. Having tried thousands of cafes globally, we hope to bring you the most objective take on pet-friendly cafes and restaurants in Singapore through our adventures with our furry friends.
Singapore’s east is a treasure trove of quaint cafes and cosy restaurants to explore. One of our staples include Five Oars Coffee Roasters. This cafe began at their original Tanjong Pagar location a few years back, and subsequently relocated to East Coast in 2021. A passion for good coffee and its pairing with delicious food led the founders to start Five Oars. More about their story can be found on their website.
Read on for our review of this lovely cafe!
The Space
Nestled on the first floor of an apartment building on upper east coast road, Five Oars Coffee Roasters takes on a 4500 square foot space with an industrial and chill vibe. The cafe is pet-friendly with many dogs with their owners spotted enjoying their weekday and weekend brunches in the nicely sheltered outdoor dining area. The dog-friendly outdoor space can accommodate up to 6 groups of diners between 20 to 22 people at a time. If you do not have a furry companion with you, the air-conditioned indoor dining area contains 10 to 12 tables that can sit a range of 2 to 5 guests. We particularly love this location as it faces a vast and airy front yard away from the bustle of the cars and dusty streets.
The Menu
Coffee, pasta, burgers, and even craft beers are available all day for diners. The Five Oars menu contains a wide range of food and beverages for patrons of all ages. We have tried a few menu items on different occasions and particularly enjoyed the Eggs Your Way ($12), Sriracha Chicken Benedict ($18), & the Granchio Rigatoni ($24).
Eggs Your Way is a simple toast with eggs, where you get to have your choice of brioche or sourdough toast, coupled with eggs done your preferred way. We are huge believers that an easy dish done well beats gourmet tasting menus all day; like our one-dish hawkers and their perfected hokkien mee and nasi lemak (without cockles).
The juicy grilled chicken with eggs benedict was a rare combination that surprisingly complemented each other, full of flavour yet a very healthy option. All pastas and breads are house-made with quality ingredients for the best dining experience you can get.
For coffee, getting a standard black or white coffee with your favourite choice of beans (we go for the fruitier/floral option always) elevates your brunch to a whole new level. If you’re not looking for your daily boost of caffeine, there is also a range of sodas, wines, and beers to delve into for your day-drinking afternoons.
The Experience
On our regular visits to Five Oars Coffee Roasters, we often meet other dogs and their friendly owners. The east coast location tends to get a bit crowded on the weekends, but we generally get seated within 15 minutes each time.
The staff are generally friendly, but can get a little busy during peak hours if you go. They will also offer our dogs some water and pets when they meet Bagel. This is definitely one of our favourite dog-friendly cafes in Singapore.
They have also recently opened a new location at Asia Square Tower at 8 Marina View if you are looking for a more centrally located cafe to bring your furry friends to!
