BELLY UP Reviews Singapore's Dog Parks: The Largest Dog Run in the East at Parkland Green, East Coast Park.

On Sunday, November 22nd 2020, the biggest dog run in the east was opened by the National Parks Board. There was a flurry (& furry) surge of excitement and interest in how this 0.2 hectare dog park, situated in the middle of east coast park, will cater to the dog owners living in the east.

BELLY UP’s team headed there on a clear Sunday morning a few weeks after the opening to conduct some reconnaissance activities to provide other furry friends with some insight on whether it's worthy to make a trip down to this newly opened dog run.

Where is the new East Coast Park Dog Run?

The new dog run is situated within Parkland Green, right next to Bakery And Bar St. Marc (a dog-friendly cafe). This location has always been a popular spot for dog owners to bring their furry friends.

The dog park itself is a uniform, rectangular shape that stretches along a pedestrian walking path within Parkland Green. There is also a slight incline which provides your pups some challenge from running uphill and downhill with their furry friends. In addition, there is also a new bird perch located next to the dog run, where bird owners can bring their winged companions for a day out with their four-legged friends. Backdrop of this little gated community is the ocean, which is a view not offered by the other dog parks thus far.

Next to the dog park, there is a lovely Japanese cafe which serves mouth-watering chicken & waffles, and decadent chocolate croissants that is pet-friendly too.

The Space

This dog run at East Coast Park is fairly new, and therefore, generally clean of nasties like dog poop. There is no visible litter within the area, however, the trees that provide shade to the dog park seems to have succumbed to the hot weather recently and quite a number of leaves have fallen onto the area.

There are three entrances to the dog run, which may be concerning to some pet parents. Three entryways means that your pups have more routes of escape. From a user perspective, it could also be a way to help diffuse the crowd that is usually concentrated around the main entrance at typical dog parks.

There is one main water point within the fenced-up area, which is useful if your dogs need some H2O after their butt sniffing and zoomies.

This dog park has plenty of space for our furry friends to speed to and fro, yet it lacks the typical benches and resting spots for their human companions. Unlike most dog runs where you will find ample spaces for people to sit around, this one only has a few stumps that provide seating, or a spot for dogs who want to rest next to their owners and have a yummy treat instead.
