Swimming for Dogs has become increasingly popular amongst the Singaporean dog community for its health and wellness benefits for our pups. This includes decreasing the risk of osteoarthritis & hip dysplasia in our furry friends, and also getting some quality vitamin D for ourselves as pet parents.

The BELLY UP team visited Mutts & Mittens Active, a dog swimming pool and dog boarding facility at Kovan, to explore and review their services and provide our community with more insight on our experience at the doggy pool.

Situated in the heart of Kovan, Mutts & Mittens Active is a Dog Swimming Pool & Dog Boarding facility sitting on a land area of 21,200 square feet. This gigantic playground for fidos opened their swimming pool in September 2020 for pet parents to bring their dogs for a swim at a central location in Singapore.

The entrance is situated at 862 Upper Serangoon Road, with ample parking lots and enough space for a drop-off point if you are coming via private hire vehicles.

Before entering the swimming facility, you will be required to take your temperature and check-in via TraceTogether as per government regulations. Your dog will then be allowed to roam in a small garden (or dog run) to encourage them to do their business (big or small).

You will then be ushered to the shower area to rinse down your pups (and yourselves!) for hygiene purposes. Take this opportunity to clean off any dirt between your dog’s paws and fur as this will transfer into the water and contaminate the pool. For our furry friends who require swimming vests, they are situated near the shower area and owners can approach the friendly staff to enquire about this.

After which, you can proceed to the swimming pool, also named the Blue Lagoon. Experience the 50 meter u-shaped pool with streaming water jets and a cooling waterfall at the far end, remember to slap on some sunscreen while you are at it!

We were excited to be visiting this new dog pool as we have always seen it on our rides past the main Serangoon artery through Kovan. The customer experience was excellent, with clear instructions and fuss-free procedures to book a swimming session. Here are some of the key steps to get your slot at the doggy pool.

  1. Purchase a Swim Pass for $100. This entitles you to bring one dog for 5 one-hour swim sessions. Email your payment details to the team with your order number.

  2. Book an available swim slot online. The Blue Lagoon is currently open with 5 time slots on Wednesdays, and 7 time slots on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

  3. Drop a Whatsapp message on your dog’s most recent titer test results or vaccination documents to 8522 1566. Your dog will need to be updated on their vaccinations for this activity.

This easy three step process will set you and your dog up for your next swim session.

Swimming at the pool with our dog was a refreshing experience. We have had previous encounters with much smaller dog pools, but the sheer size and length of this u-shaped pool at Mutts & Mittens Active allowed space for humans and dogs to swim together.

There was also a central viewing gallery with clear tempered glass on the sides to allow pet parents to view their dogs swimming underwater. This is a plus if you are trying to record improvements of your pup swimming and kicking underwater over time.

Swimming has many proven benefits for dogs; such as strengthening of muscles, building up of cardiovascular endurance, and a great activity for senior dogs or dogs with joint issues, as it’s not a weight-bearing exercise. In addition, it nurtures an experience that is alternative to dog-walking, as swimming requires a mix of coordination and trust between humans and dogs. In the warm weather of Singapore, swimming with our dogs was also the preferred activity on a weekend to cool off the heat. Remember to bring towels & toiletries for a good doggy bath after!
