BELLY UP Gives Back To Creatives And Writers During The Pandemic To Support The Local Creative Industry.

BELLY UP started with sustainability and giving back to the Singapore pet community with what we can in mind. However, recent months have been a sound reminder that many other under-appreciated industries have also been negatively affected, and we would like to reach out to Singaporean pet owners whose income are also being affected by the pandemic.

We will like to offer an opportunity for creatives to write blog posts for us in return for some financial support. Our business noticed that Singapore’s creatives and writers have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic due to a drastic decrease in demand for writing assignments in the creative industry. We constantly seek to do what we can for our fellow countrymen and writers, even as we are not a profiteering organisation till date of this post.

For every blog post, we will be paying out a minimum of SGD 25 in payment to the writer, and also a donation of SGD 25 to an animal charity that we choose in the writer’s name. If the writer prefers to donate the whole amount, which is a minimum of SGD 50 to the charity, they can opt to do that too.

EDIT: As of 11th March 2021, the payout has been increased to SGD 100 per approved blog post.

How do you benefit from this writing assignment? Read on to find out more!

For Writers

  1. You should be a dog owner who is currently residing in Singapore (non-singapore citizens welcome!)

  2. You will be required to write on a topic about your living experiences with your dog. It should be about dog nutrition, health and wellness, or training in general. We do not expect you to be an expert, so not to worry if you do not have extensive knowledge on any category.

  3. The blogpost will need to have a minimum of 500 words.

  4. Email your proposed topic, a 50-word summary, and a photo of you and your pup, to hello@bellyup.sg with the header “Bork Post For BELLY UP” before you embark on writing the whole article. We will review and respond to you as soon as our paws can handle them!

For Non-writers (or if you are not a professional writer/creative)

You can still submit your proposed topic, a 50-word summary, and a photo of you and your pup, to hello@bellyup.sg. We appreciate genuine experiences, and the payout mentioned above will still apply!

On Visibility And Ethics (also, for your information)

We hope to support the creative industry in Singapore, as we believe that there are a bunch of really talented writers out there that deserve to be paid a decent wage for every word and effort that they put in.

An average writer in Singapore is typically paid SGD $0.50 per word, and a senior and higher-quality writer gets paid SGD $1 to $2 per word. This means that our rate of $50 for the blog post, which pays out SGD $0.10 per word, is significantly below the market rate. However, we are a small company that only hopes to support our local creatives with what we can, in addition to the fact that we are not yet a profiting company as we donate all of our proceeds to animal charities to date. We will revise the rates to be more competitive whenever our organisation can provide a sustainable way forward to incentivise our local creatives.

Moreover, for each dollar that we donate to animal charities, we are not going to be entitled to any tax cuts or tax rebates. Our donations are purely charitable, with no motive to generate monetary incentives for BELLY UP.

In Conclusion

Without creatives and writers, there would not be literature that provokes thinking, nor stories that inspire a generation.
