BELLY UP Reviews Singapore's Dog-Friendly Cafes: Newest Tiong Bahru Bakery & Cafe At Crane Road With Delicious French Croissants

Disclaimer: This is an independent review and we have had no commercial relations to Tiong Bahru Bakery or its affiliates. Having tried thousands of cafes globally, we hope to bring you the most objective take on pet-friendly cafes and restaurants in Singapore through our adventures with our furry friends.

Tiong Bahru Bakery most recently fooled everyone on April Fool’s Day with their croissant redemption giveaway. Although getting in line for 7 croissants and waiting 2 hours to get a coffee or tea is not our vibe, we did pop by two days after to visit their newest outlet opening on 7 Crane Road, right next to famed local dog supply store The Dog Grocer.

The new bakery has recently taken over a traditional coffee shop that used to serve really good roti pratas, and given way to a more gentrified breakfast offering of croissants, sourdough bread loaves, and specialty coffee.

Read on for our review of this lovely cafe!

The Space

The new spot sits on the corner of Onan Road and Crane Road with its emerald green signs decked along both sides. The french bakery has ample outdoor seating that can accommodate dogs and their owners with approximately 10 tables and almost 50 seats.

The indoor space is cooled and sits about 20-30 people on a busy day. The interior of Tiong Bahru Bakery is bright and airy, with plenty of natural light and a relaxed atmosphere. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a pastry and a cup of coffee, or to pick up some bread to take home. The lush greenery left behind by its previous tenants still stands and supplements the overall landscape of this dog-friendly cafe on the fringes of Joo Chiat.

The Menu

Roast Beef Croissant & Hojicha Latte

The usual french bakery offerings are available here with variations of croissants, croissant sandwiches, quiches, brioche buns and rolls. We were looking forward to lunch and decided to have a Roast Beef Croissant ($12) and some Hojicha Latte ($6.2) for a pick-me-up. The croissants at Tiong Bahru Bakery are consistently crusty, flakey and extremely buttery with their use of iconic french butter for optimum fat content in baking. The Croque Monsieur with Salad ($15) is a must-try, with its layers of ham, Gruyere cheese, and béchamel sauce sandwiched between slices of buttery bread. You might also like their other popular coffee options like the Flat White ($5.7), Magic ($5.7), and Long Black ($5) coffee options. For non-coffee drinkers, try their Great C ($7.8) orange and grapefruit juice, or TBB Teh Tarik ($6.6) for their take on the iconic singaporean tea with condensed milk.

We also had their Green Tea Croissant ($6.2) and Cafe Latte ($5.7) for a sweet and caffeinated ending. Tiong Bahru Bakery sources its coffee beans from Common Man Coffee Roasters, with a blend roasted and concocted specially for the bakery’s coffee offerings.

The Experience

This dog-friendly cafe at the edge of Joo Chiat is the newest addition to the regular slew of dog-friendly cafes like Kings Cart Coffee Factory, Micro Bakery, and Neptune Coffee. The bakery is ample with seating and an impressive menu complemented by locally roasted specialty coffee. The outdoor area was kept clean and tidy, absent of croissant flakes sprinkled across the ground. This is definitely one of our favourite dog-friendly coffee spots in the east!
